Singapore Through My Lens

Supertrees at the Gardens by The Bay

No trip to Singapore can be complete without a visit to the Merlion. This is the original installation and much smaller than I expected.

A dichotomy of the old and the new, the Thian Hock Keng Tao Temple right in the middle of the city is a slice of peace and tranquility in the otherwise bustling place.

Singapore does not have natural resources but they import numerous precious stones. Here at the workshop that I visited, artisans turn these stones into beautiful pieces of art. The above images are of paintings created out of precious stones at the workshop, on display for sale.

Orchid is the national flower of this city-country and even though not endemic to the region, the Botanical Garden boasts of a variety of orchids in all shapes and colours.

The landscaping in the area makes for peaceful spots of quiet contemplation.

The Singapore Flyer at the height of 541 feet is the second largest ferris wheel in the world. The peak of the flyer provides a bird’s eye view of the ocean on one side and all of the city’s famous landmarks – Marina Bay Sands, Gardens By The Bay, F1 racing tracks and the financial district – on the other.

Marina Bay Sands – enough said 🙂

A panoramic view of the Flyer and Gardens By The Bay.

The light and sound show every evening at the Gardens By The Bay is something I would recommend to the traveller and tourist alike. The vivacious performance made me feel like I was inside the movie Avatar. The dance of colours to the rhythm or Oriental music against the night sky is an otherworldly experience.

Arab street is a photographer’s delight. The murals and street art here range from mexican themes and islamic influences to modern graffiti. If in the city you happen to chance upon the aroma of barbecued kebabs along with whiffs of flavoured smoke of the hookah, then be sure that you have landed in Arab street. Take a stroll through its alleyways and you will be surprised at the variety of street art in this area.

At Sentosa – a cluster of four islands – the butterfly park contains myriad butterflies. It is almost like walking into an enchanted forest with flutters all around.

While I was busy capturing the butterflies, i heard a loud gruff clicking noise. On looking up, I found this toucan who was obviously jealous of all the attention that was being given to the butterflies and not him. He happily posed for a shot 🙂

A parakeet showing off its beautiful plumage.

I spent at least 30 minutes and took two rounds of this mesmerising underwater world at Sentosa. I harbor dreams of going scuba diving one day and this was the closest I have come to this day to see the corals and sea life in such grand splendor.

Tiny jellyfish!

The Sentosa Merlion stands tall at the height of 37 meters. The open mouth washed in red light is a viewing deck that gives a view of all the Sentosa cluster of islands along with the mainland of Singapore.

The Universal Studios was a dream come true for me as I walked into all of my favorite fairy tales ‘literally’. Even though accompanied by a child, I think I acted and felt more like a child here on meeting the Minions.
